I'll be flying up with my daughter for move in and move out for the Summer Intensive. Any suggestions on the best place to stay? We've only ever stayed in Times Square.
We don't have any specific hotel recommendations but anything in Harlem will be pretty close. It's also between 125th and 135th subway stops which are on the A, B and C lines. Feel free to ask more questions if you think we can help!
Hello Shelya,
My name is Patrick Wilkins and our daughter Sofia is attending for 4 weeks...I wanted to mention that depending on your arrival airport and whether or not you plan to rent a car, It may be worth your while to also look across the river at New Jersey for your hotel for arrival/drop off and vise versa...
We live in Paramus, New Jersey and are about 5 miles to the George Washington Bridge (GWB) and Washington Heights/NYC as the crow flies...Fort Lee is the name of the town in NJ on the other side of the GWB and there are a number of hotels there that are in easy driving distance from NYC...the areas are well developed, safe and have a lot of amenities...Traffic is always something to plan for but this would offer you some options right outside of NYC with a pretty easy and quick access point to the City and specifically where IAMT and CCNY are.
The following would probably be best for anyone flying into Newark Airport....Laguardia Airport is a fair drive from here but I wouldn't say it would be prohibitive to stay at these Jersey hotels as I'm focusing more on your access in to NYC to IAMT...Drive/uber/taxi from Laguardia would probably take about 45 minutes to an hour to these locations (depending on traffic...evenings or early mornings would be pretty reasonable)..Newark arrivals would be closer to 25 -30 minute drive....JFK is the furthest out from all airports (especially from a Jersey perspective) and would expect an hour+ to the Jersey side of the GWB.
The Hyatt Place, Fort Lee is the first that comes to mind..I've not personally stayed there but it is well reviewed and is located right on the lead-up to the GWB...would be a very easy jump over the bridge from there. I would also suggest the Teaneck Marriot at Glenpointe or the Hampton Inn & Suites, Teaneck...both nice hotels and they are right next to one another...these are about 2 miles further out form Fort Lee but still very close and would make for an easy jumping off point into NYC/Washington Heights.
